About Justus Irungu:

With over 20 years of experience designing creative concepts, I have worked with leading advertising companies and independently as a creative consultant. My expertise spans various sectors including FMCG’s, real estate, banking, agribusiness, architecture, and non-governmental organizations.

As a self-motivated and resourceful graphic designer, I am driven by results and know how to translate communication strategies into tangible creative concepts. I thrive in a creative environment and have collaborated with creative directors, designers, copywriters, strategists, and client service teams to deliver exceptional results.

Experience

2013 June – current Independent Creative Consultant - Pxell Concepts

I started consulting to provide innovative services to clients in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and start-up industries. This venture builds upon my extensive work experience.

My responsibilities include creating both print and digital concepts, designing brand identities, developing websites, and producing designs for a diverse range of clients. I have worked with a variety of businesses including Mojo Productions, LMJ Consulting, Piga Bao League, Elex Products, Modular Interiors, EDG & Atelier, Sunculture, Magdas Home Creations, Traction Communications, Timeline Studio, I Choose Life, VSO International, Amref, Hallmark Advertising, AFECN, SBO Research, Leonard Chesire Disability, Twisted Baker, and SMEP Micro Finance Bank.

Key Design Achievements

One of my crucial design achievements was overseeing the concept development and branding for several notable brands, including:

Mojo Productions: I was responsible for designing and developing a new website for Mojo Productions, as well as managing all of their branding requirements and social media content.

Sunculture: I created their first print campaign, titled "Love is the Only Thing." This campaign helped increase awareness and visibility of their irrigation and agriculture solar products and services.

Elex Products: I also designed and developed a fully functional e-commerce website for Elex Products. The website has an extensive inventory of over 150 products.

2008 August – 2013 May Art Director – Ogilvy & Mather Advertising

My role involved developing and implementing creative concepts for local and international clients. I collaborated closely with the client service team to ensure that the best creative solutions were realized, implemented, and delivered.

I worked with several high-profile accounts including Aon, BAT, British American Insurance, Coca Cola, Nakumatt, EABL, Multichoice, PSI, National Oil, KTB, Bank Of Africa (BOA), Bamburi, and NHIF.

Key Design Achievements

As an art director, I oversaw the concept development and execution of advertising requirements for several prominent brands, including:

Population Services International (PSI): As a member of the core creative team, we developed several highly successful Malaria awareness campaigns that saw PSI meet its awareness objective to the target audience.
Coca-Cola: I played a vital role in developing the Core Creative Idea for the launch of Coke Ultra 30cl. This involved creating collateral and print materials to promote the new product.

Multichoice Kenya: I collaborated with a creative team to create various advertising communications for different shows and channels. Our goal was to effectively promote the brand to a wider audience.

2003 September - 2008 July Graphic Designer - Access Leo Burnett Advertising Agency

As a graphic designer at Access Leo Burnett team, I played a crucial role in the acquisition of several clients, thanks to our exceptional standards of creative design work. My responsibilities included developing and executing creative concepts, as well as managing the creative studio to ensure projects were completed to the highest level of detail and delivered within agreed timelines.

I had the pleasure of working on a diverse range of accounts, including Telkom Kenya, PSI, Western Union, The East African, KLB (Kenya Literature of Bureau), CCK, NSE, Brookside, CIC (Cooperative Insurance Cooperation), P&G (Proctor & Gamble), Diamond Trust, and I&M Bank.

Key Design Achievements
Orange Mobile Network Pitch: I was part of the team that worked on the successful pitch for the Orange Mobile Network account. Our work focused on print and below-the-line advertising.

Brookside Cup Yoghurt: I developed a highly successful thematic campaign design concept that led to the successful launch of the cup yogurt. This campaign was focused on print advertising.

2001 September - 2003 October
Intern/Mac Operator/DTP – Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Agency

For a period of two years, I had the privilege of working as a Mac Operator/Graphic Designer under the guidance of a seasoned Creative Director. During this time, I received invaluable mentorship and training and had the opportunity to work closely with experienced designers and art directors.

Education

My professional journey commenced in the field of Fine Arts when I enrolled at Creative Art Centre College in Nairobi. Additionally, I have received comprehensive instruction in Creative and Design Development from Ogilvy & Mather East Africa and completed a Design and Print Packaging Training course offered by Tetra Pack.
