Experience

April 19th, 2021- Present: (HOLDING OVER, ADVOCATE OF THE HIGH COURT OF KENYA P.105/21329/22), State Law Office and Department of Justice (Attorney General’s office) Kisumu Regional Office. (CONTRACT)

 

Deployed to Kisumu Regional Office under the Civil Litigation department. Responsibilities include preparing briefs, court pleadings, court attendance, letters to Ministries and other Government Institutions represented by the Office of the Attorney General, court attendance and basic client care. 

 

July 5th, 2021 – January 14th, 2022: (PUPIL), State Law Office and Department of Justice (Office of the Attorney General).

 

This is in partial fulfilment of my post graduate diploma, for the Advocate Training Program at the Kenya School of Law. Involved working in various departments including but not limited to Public Trustee, Civil Litigation, Registrar General (Marriages & Societies), Legal Advisory & Opinion, National Legal Aid Service, Commercial & Arbitration among others. The pupillage program involves an all-round approach from drafting legal opinions, drafting court submissions on behalf of the Government, administration of deceased’s estates, witnessing & conducting civil marriages, correspondence between Government Ministries, reviewing of draft bills, policies, commercial agreements and basic office administration and client care. 

 

January, 2020 – January, 2021: (STUDENT VOLUNTEER), Lapid Leaders Africa (Lapid Africa is a leadership program that is structured on three modules: Lead Self, Lead Market, Lead Africa)

I was involved in community service and served as the point person between Metropol TV station and Lapid Leaders for the voice of Hope campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. Completed, level 2 of the program and a graduate of the Lead Market place module. I also served in the interviews panel and the mentorship program. 

 

January, 2018 - April ,2018: (LEGAL INTERN), Chege Kibathi and Co. Advocates

My responsibilities included holding brief, filing court documents, registry processes relating to land and basic office errands. I was able to establish contacts in various offices in the course of my work that remain useful to the firm up to date. 

 

Jan, 2017- May, 2017: (STUDENT ATTACHE) at Kisumu Law Court, under Resident Magistrate Shinyada

This was a requirement in partial fulfilment of my undergraduate course and it entailed more of learning through participatory observation. I also had the opportunity to sit in both the civil and criminal registries and go through several case files, which was resourceful in drafting rulings as directed by my immediate supervisor.
