I am a trained project management specialist. I have vast experience in designing livelihood programs and in strategic planning, networking and coordination skills.
I am professionally trained in Kenya, UK and South Africa. I have previously worked for World Vision Kenya as Program Manager, Project coordinator, Development facilitator and Livelihood Specialist. Currently i am in charge of livelihoods directorate in Kenya water towers agency, a parastatal in the Ministry of Environment.
Experience
2018- to date Deputy Director KWTA : Tasks included : Support and coordinate the implementation of directorates activities, promote locally led climate change initiatives in communities living around the water towers, develop business concepts/models for the agency , compile technical reports for the directorate and review project performance
2016- 2018 : Worked as a Project officer with a UNDP funded project in the Ministry of Environment. Key tasks included coordinating the implementation activities for thematic area 5 and writing technical and workshop proceedings
2011-2014 Regional Livelihood Specialist WVK: Tasks include: Provide innovative and strategic leadership direction, effective and timely implementation of program related household livelihood and community resiliency initiatives in the region; support program staff to carry out assessments, designs, measurements, monitoring and evaluations related to Livelihood & Resilience focused sectors and in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures; prepare and manage budgets for the regional office and prepare briefs and position papers for livelihood and advocacy related issues, impart appropriate mentoring, coaching and capacity building to equip, motivate and empower program staff in the effective implementation of program livelihood initiative, support programs in the region develop DRR and resilience projects and provide technical guidance to project implementation and monitoring and build capacity of program staff and collaborating partners (such as government staff, NGos, CBO’s and Faith based organizations) in the region, coordinate both internal and external reviews and evaluations specifically for the livelihoods project, provide technical support to field teams in areas of relief assistance, disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, monitoring and evaluation of livelihood projects, climate change adaptation and mitigation and water management projects and support the implementation of Farmer managed regeneration and climate smart innovations with smallholder farmers with collaboration with WVK research experts and other research partners
2007 – 2010 Program Manager WVK : Key tasks : Provide support in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of livelihood interventions, carry out assessments, designs, monitoring and evaluation for projects implementation using the project cycle management approach, manage program facilities and assets, participate in partner meetings and sharing lessons learnt and best practices, prepare regular program progress reports as required internally and/or for donors and partners, design appropriate climate smart and conservation agriculture activities as well as disaster preparedness and early warning for early action systems, build capacity of staff and partners in livelihood security interventions through training in technical and participatory approaches such as sustainable livelihoods frameworks, engage and consult with key stakeholders on regular basis - Community, government, church and other civil society representatives in the district in order to maximize the impacts of the program, participate in research work for livelihood interventions and develop TOR’s (Terms of Reference) for baselines and evaluation exercises, participate in baseline and evaluation exercises and end of term evaluation, nutrition surveys and peace building and resolution initiatives
2004 – Dec 2006: Food Security Project Coordinator (W/V (K) Tasks : Carry out training and capacity building for community members at the program level, Compile and submit quality project Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reports., Design replicable food security and climate change interventions based on the practiced farming systems, organize meetings and workshops for stakeholders and community members, draft consultants Terms of Reference (ToR) for the project end of term evaluation and pocure and distribute appropriate agricultural and livestock inputs to increase crop and livestock production
January 2002 – August 2004 :Deputy Agricultural Officer- Turkana District
Tasks:
- Design water harvesting structures in Kalobei settlement, Kibish and Lokichogio
- Implemented the rehabilitation of Turkana Irrigation schemes in collaboration with FAO and NDMA
- Designed water harvesting structures for refugees in Kakuma camp in collaboration with WFP
- Facilitate and coordinate the implementation of all environmental and agricultural based programs/projects in the district
- Manage agricultural department facilities
- Compile monthly, quarterly and Annual District environmental and food situation reports
- Design value chain and climate change adaptation and resilience concepts for livelihood support in the district
- Prepare budgets, monitor and evaluate implementation of Livestock and Agricultural based activities.
- Build collaborative networks and links with other stakeholders and actors in the district
- Represent the provincial agricultural officer in stakeholder and food security meetings and workshops organized at the district
- Collaborate with stakeholders (WFP, UNDP, KEFRI, KARI ) and researchers to implemnt projects and projects geared towards improving nutrition and natural resources management in the district
- Prepare departmental work plans and Budgets
- Participate in setting targets for the department, staff and appraise staff in line with the ministry performance appraisal standards
- In collaboration with Arid lands project carry out Rapid Food/rains assessments reports in liaison with WFP during times of complex emergencies and natural disasters and come up with interventions and recommendations appropriate for sustainable emergency response
1994-2001 : Livestock and Agricultural Extension Coordinator – Samburu District
Tasks
- Coordinate all activities related to both Livestock and Agriculture in Samburu
- Liaise with KARI Marigat Dry Lands Research station to carry out adaptive research trials Samburu
- Compile monthly, quarterly and Annual district food situation reports and share with other actors operating in the district
- Prepare divisional annual Work plans and Budgets for both livestock and Agriculture sectors
- Build collaborative networks and links with other stakeholders and actors in the division
- Mentor and coach staff to build their technical capacity in wiriting technical reports
- Support Arid lands Project developand dessimnate food situation reports to Arid land hqs in Nairobi
