Consultant, Copywriter and Content Editor: August 2022 – July 2023, Khartoum - SDN. – UN World Food Programme – Sudan

Conceptualized, developed, and managed all aspects of the editorial process for the organizations internal and external audiences including shaping the strategic direction of the content production process, sub-editing and proofreading all copy and layouts and sourcing appropriate content. Also contributed related news and human-interest stories whilst interacting with the design team to come up with appropriate layouts for the organizations content products including reports, newsletters, brochures, media briefs, case studies, infographics, as well as online and social media content. The position also entailed developing visual content, animated artwork, short form videos and dynamic social media assets.

Results: In my initial engagement with the WFP–Sudan, I coordinated data and asset collection for the successful publication of the 2022 Annual Country Report and organized the repositories for all documents related to the report. 

Senior Officer - Communications and Advocacy: October 2020 – November 2021 Nairobi - KE. – Concern Worldwide – Kenya

Developed and implemented an integrated strategic communications plan for Concern Worldwide – Kenya's brand identity and directed internal and external communications including media and public relations, content development, news releases, briefing materials, articles for print and broadcast media, websites and social media posts as well as other advocacy and informational materials. Supported the programmes department in grant proposal development, policy and advocacy briefs as well as managing events, public outreach programs, training and workshop presentations and meetings. Served as communications advisor to organization’s senior leadership team and led the development of executive communication materials, including talking points and external presentations for the Management Team members.

Programmes & Communications Consultant: August 2018 – August 2019 Nairobi - KE. – Office of the Speaker - Nairobi City County Assembly (NCCA)

Working as a consultant for the USAID- funded Agile and Harmonized Assistance for Devolved Institutions (AHADI) program attached to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker’s office, I supported internal and external communication initiatives with a focus on integrated messaging across the different platforms as envisaged in the communications strategy.

Results: Developed resource mobilization strategies that resulted in three partnership agreements with different donors and partners who committed financial and technical resource support for the County Assembly to undertake public participation for the 2018/9 Nairobi County Finance Bill and public participation forums by the County Assembly for the Nairobi City County Urban Housing Renewal and Regeneration Plan.

Public Relations and Communications Officer: January 2012 – July 2018 Nairobi - KE. – Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA)

Spearheaded the overall brand strategy and positioning for the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), maximizing the national presence of its members among the organization’s stakeholders. Evolved and optimized the communications infrastructure, internally and externally, to create high-impact, integrated campaigns. Coordinated research and advocacy on gender related legislative Bills, Motions, and Statements on behalf of Members. Undertook gender and social policy and advocacy, lobbying, strategic communications, strategic networking, negotiating, and advising on legislative options that advance the interests of both the organization and its stakeholders for mutual benefits. Involved in the lobbying for the actualization of the Prohibition against FGM Act as well as the Social Assistance Act.

Results: Drafted the first ever KEWOPA communication strategy to increase understanding of KEWOPA and engage key audiences to create, strengthen, or preserve conditions favourable for the advancement of the KEWOPA’s objectives.
