About Jackline Nanetia:

 I am a focused and passionate Cooperative Education expert. I am successfully contributing to  the Cooperative Movement in Kenya. 

 I have worked in the Cooperative Sector for more than six years 

 Working with Cooperative Societies to improve the governance and leadership structures to foster efficiency and integrity. 

 I am a firm believer in the Cooperative Principles and Values as given by the International Cooperative Alliance- ICA. When Societies embrace these principles and values, they place themselves in a better position to achieve their set goals and objectives. 

 I assist Cooperatives boost efficiency and improve them to meet the needs of its members be it savings & credit services or marketing of produce. 

 I am also skilled in effective negotiations techniques. I am able to utilise my excellent organisational skill to enhance efficiency and lead teams to achieve outstanding outputs. 

2. Skills and Services Offered 

 Offer expert advice in business and strategic planning. Business and Strategic Plans are essential tools for Cooperative Societies as it helps them focus on specific steps necessary for their socio-economic success. These tools also assist these Societies to understand their capacity needs, determine future financial projections besides attracting investors. 

 Offer great expert advice and assistance in development of budgets and work-plans for Cooperative Societies. Cooperative legislation stipulates that monies of a Cooperative Society can only be expended when there is an approved budget. Assisting Societies formulate budgets therefore goes a long way in ensuring they comply with the Cooperative Societies Act (Cap 490) of the laws of Kenya. Annual work-plans break down routine operational and strategic activities into manageable bits. 

 Offer training services on governance and leadership matters among the management committee of Cooperatives. Training board members and management on governance and leadership improves the performance of Societies. This fosters the principle of Education, Training and Information. 

 Skilled in development of policies & procedures as well as monitoring of their implementation. Cooperative Societies need some key policies to aid in the achievement of set goals and objectives. Each given policy serves some specific intentional purpose in bringing order and clarity to the Society. Some of these policies include: Credit, Governance, Investment, Procurement, Human Resource and Financial Procedures among others. These are skilfully tailor-made to suit the needs of a particular Society. 

 Expert in Cooperative Society (Saccos and Non-Saccos) formation and operationalization. This involves pre-Cooperative trainings and development of by-laws for new Societies. Revision of by-laws is another accompanying service offered whenever a given Society needs to change some section(s) to suit emerging need(s). 

 Sacco loan product development skills. Working with the board and management/staff to develop specific loan products that suit the needs of the Sacco members. Also offer recommendations on possible products and assist in their development. 

 Conducting Capacity Needs Assessments (CNAs) of Cooperatives and issuing recommendations through CNA reports. CNAs offer key insights in governance, human resource management, financial management etc and allow the Society score itself against its benchmarks. 

Development of grants proposals for Cooperatives. Clear and direct proposals aid Societies in persuading financiers to support their cause.

 Offer expert advice on investment opportunities by conducting feasibility studies. This involves data collection, SWOT and PESTEL analyses, financial projections, NPV and payback period and recommending the best option. 

 

 

3. Recent Accomplishments 

 Between 2020 and 2022, I participated in the formation and operationalization of fourteen Producer Organisations (POs) across Narok County. These POs are chaperoned by the National Agricultural Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) - which is a World Bank funded project. These POs include four Dairy Unions, three Horticultural Cooperatives and seven Poultry Societies. Our team assisted all these POs to set up management structures, develop their Enterprise Development Plans (EDPs) and mobilise potential members to join and patronise these Societies. These combined activities have seen a huge leap in the various Value Chains (VCs) involved in terms of household incomes through collective sales of farm produce, chicken and its products. 

 Between 2021 and now, I have been a member of a Crack team in the formation, member and fund mobilisation for four Saccos which are being handheld by NARIGP through the Financial Inclusion Matching Grant (FIMG). I participate in the monthly follow up of progress with a bias on membership, savings and share capital mobilised. As a member of the Crack team, we have assisted these young Saccos set up structures of governance. We have put them in a good position of commencing their loaning processes through development of relevant policies like the Credit and Savings policies. We have also assisted them develop relevant documents like the loan appraisal guidelines, loan forms among others. 

 I have continuously built the capacities of Cooperatives in Narok East toward compliance with the Cooperative legislations. This is achieved through conducting impromptu inspections on Societies to check on its routine operations and issue recommendations among other approaches. 

 Participated in the formation of Narok Shirika County Development Association- the Co-Operative Education, Training and Information Centre (CETIC) of Narok. CETIC, in conjunction with the BMZ – Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development DGRV of Germany, empower the Cooperatives at the grassroots level through capacity building programs that are affordable, available and accessible to all. I am still currently active in CETIC- Narok as a trainer of trainers (ToT) on governance and leadership. 

 I have continuously participated in negotiations for favourable milk prices and witnessing signing of contracts between Dairy Cooperatives in Narok East Sub-County and milk processors like Brookeside Dairies.

 Diploma in Business Management at Cambridge University through Digital Advisory Learning Centre (DALC) 

 I have attended various workshops and seminars on various topical issues appertaining Cooperatives over the last six years. These have assisted me to hone my skills in the Cooperative Sector.
