As a Health Records Officer, I have completed my studies at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) from 2021 to 2023. During my time at KMTC, I gained comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in health information management and the responsible handling of patient records.

In my current role, my main responsibility is to manage and maintain accurate health records for patients within the healthcare facility. I work diligently to organize, secure, and ensure the accessibility of patient health information, both in electronic and paper-based formats.

Drawing from the education and training I received at KMTC, I am well-versed in data entry and coding, accurately inputting relevant patient data into the electronic health record (EHR) system. Coding diagnoses, procedures, and medical information are essential for efficient billing and reporting processes.

Patient confidentiality is of utmost importance to me, and I strictly adhere to all relevant data protection laws and regulations, including the principles outlined in the Kenyan healthcare system, to safeguard sensitive patient information from unauthorized access or disclosure.

Utilizing the skills acquired during my studies, I diligently track and update patient records as they receive medical treatment and services. This requires effective communication and collaboration with healthcare providers to ensure the records reflect the most current and accurate information.

As part of my role, I process requests for the release of patient health records to authorized parties, such as other healthcare providers, insurance companies, or the patients themselves. I follow proper procedures and guidelines to ensure that only authorized individuals receive the necessary information.

Having been trained in various health information management systems and EHR software at KMTC, I am proficient in using technology to streamline our record-keeping processes and ensure data accuracy and accessibility.

Drawing from my educational background, I perform periodic audits of health records to maintain their accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established guidelines. This quality control process is essential for maintaining the integrity of our health records.

I am also responsible for training and educating other healthcare staff on proper record-keeping practices, privacy measures, and the use of health information management systems. Sharing my knowledge and expertise from my studies at KMTC enables me to contribute to the development of a well-informed and responsible healthcare team.

Throughout my studies and career, I have had the opportunity to analyze health data, identify trends, and generate reports that contribute to decision-making and improve patient care outcomes.
