Services provided
I am Edgar Muchai Muiruri, a passionate and accomplished individual with a deep love for architecture, entrepreneurship, and community service. My journey began at the University of Nairobi, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Studies and later completed my Bachelor's in Architecture. Armed with knowledge and enthusiasm, I have been involved in various architectural projects, both as an Assistant Architect at The Hive Workspace and currently as a Resident Architect with Dama Services. My responsibilities have encompassed project supervision, quality control, and effective communication with stakeholders.
In addition to my architectural pursuits, I have actively taken on leadership roles. Being the Charter President of the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Magharibi was a proud achievement, where I played a pivotal role in its formation and served as the first president. My involvement with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards as the Kenya Chairperson allowed me to fundraise, organize logistics, and supervise the event successfully.
Beyond my professional endeavours, I have diverse interests and hobbies. Graphic design and photography have allowed me to express my creativity, and I have found joy in playing the clarinet, earning an ABRSM Grade 5 certification. Moreover, I cherish mentorship and community development, as evidenced by my role as a Mentorship Supervisor for Equity Group Foundation scholars.
I am driven by a desire to make a positive impact on both my professional field and the communities I serve. With a strong foundation in architecture, leadership, and various skills, I am eager to continue my journey, embracing new challenges and opportunities for growth and contribution.
Experience
Throughout my professional journey, I have immersed myself in the field of architecture, showcasing my expertise and dedication in various roles. Starting with my academic accomplishments, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Nairobi and subsequently completed a Bachelor's in Architectural Studies. This strong educational background laid the foundation for my career growth, instilling in me a deep understanding of architectural principles and design processes.
As an Assistant Architect at The Hive Workspace, I actively contributed to plotting architectural drawings, producing schematic drawings, and engaging with clients to meet their design requirements. The experience allowed me to refine my skills in translating clients' visions into tangible architectural plans. I also gained valuable insights into the collaborative nature of architectural projects, as I actively participated in site meetings and coordinated with various stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Moving forward, my role as a Resident Architect at Dama Services elevated my responsibilities to a new level. Overseeing construction projects in Turkana and West Pokot Counties, I embraced the challenges of remote locations and contributed significantly to community development through the built environment. My primary duties included supervising the construction works carried out by contractors, checking the quality of materials used, and acting as a liaison between the project management team and the contractors. Effective communication was key to resolving any issues on site and ensuring the projects adhered to the contract provisions.
One of the critical aspects of my professional experience is the leadership roles I have undertaken. As the Charter President of the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Magharibi, I spearheaded the formation of a new club and served as its first president. This experience not only enhanced my leadership abilities but also fueled my passion for community service. Another remarkable opportunity was my role as the Kenya Chairperson for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. In this capacity, I fundraised for the event, organized logistics, and supervised all aspects, from public relations to coordinating trainers. Being part of these initiatives allowed me to give back to the community and fostered my commitment to making a positive impact.
Beyond my architectural pursuits and leadership roles, I have engaged in various endeavors that enrich my skillset and nurture my interests. Graphic design and photography have provided creative outlets for self-expression, while playing the clarinet at a professional level has been a fulfilling way to immerse myself in the world of music. Additionally, my experiences as the General Manager at Miwamu Ventures Bookshop and the Marketing Associate for the Nancy Ellen Crooks Foundation have honed my business acumen and marketing skills.
My journey has been marked by a passion for mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community service. Through my work with Equity Group Foundation and as a Mentorship Supervisor, I have had the privilege of guiding and supporting young talents, nurturing their potential, and empowering them to succeed. These experiences have instilled in me a profound sense of fulfillment, knowing that I am contributing positively to society.
As I continue to expand my professional horizons, I remain committed to upholding the values of integrity, innovation, and excellence in all that I do. My diverse experiences, ranging from architectural design and project management to leadership and community engagement, have equipped me with a well-rounded skillset that I intend to leverage to create a lasting impact in the world. With an unwavering drive for personal growth and a strong desire to make a difference, I eagerly embrace new challenges and opportunities that come my way, driven by the belief that through dedication and perseverance, positive change is possible.
Education
I have a strong educational background that encompasses both undergraduate and secondary studies. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Nairobi, graduating in September 2020, and prior to that, I completed a Bachelor's in Architectural Studies in 2018, also from the same university. During my secondary education at Nairobi School, I achieved remarkable academic success, attaining a mean grade A of 83 points out of 84 points in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Additionally, my primary education at Karen 'C' Primary School and Gilgil Hills Academy provided a solid foundation, with notable achievements in co-curricular activities and an impressive KCPE score of 435 out of 500 marks. Alongside my formal education, I pursued my passion for music and achieved the ABRSM Clarinet Grade 5 certification, reflecting my dedication to both academic and artistic pursuits.
