About Betty Gitonga:

Professionally, I have been building extensive experience in human resources management and administration through interrelated pathways, United Nations and the private sector. I have worked as Secretary/Administrative/HRMS assistant at UNON for 14 years. I began my administrative services career in the private sector where out of 12 years I worked as a supervisor for 5 years of Administrative/Human Resource Assistants. I was a focal point for managing regular and extra-budgetary operations of the Sections. I worked as Administrator/Finance Officer preparing budgets, payroll, keeping of petty cash, preparing of per diem for the officers travelling. As HRA, I have earned A-Z recruitment of staff members and Consultants/Individual contractors, Job building, posting, evaluating, screening applications and selection of candidates; initiating and following-up on reference checks and academic qualifications; preparing and dispatching offers of appointment and Statement of Emoluments.

Experience

 have vast work experience working at government parastatal, private institutions, and United Nations in human resource roles and administration demonstrate my ability to handle roles at UN.  I was privileged to work for United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) as a recruiter on TDY where I handled recruitment for national and professional categories.
I have in depth knowledge and understanding of human resource and administrative work; hence I am a good fit for the job. I worked as the Personal Assistant to the Chief HRMS/United Nations Office at Nairobi where i coordinated work in four units. Experience in handling sensitive and confidential data. I was later promoted to a Human Resources Assistant role.  I have worked in Staff Pay and Benefit unit on staff entitlements, e.g. education grants Currently Talent Acquisition Unit where my tasks include recruitment of national and international staff members of all categories.
Prior to joining the UN, I worked at the Export Promotional Council (EPC) a government parastatal and Kenya Institute of Management as an Administrative Officer and Personal Assistant/ Secretary respectively, I was in-charge of processing project payments, travel claims, vendor Invoice payments and Budget reviews.
I have done several activities within and outside the UN which gave me the international exposure needed for missions.  These includes being part of the UNON volleyball team. I got the chance to travel to various countries, and offices where I interacted with colleagues from around the world. Further I served as a secretary in the development committee projects of my church doing peer counselling.
I believe given a chance will enable me give back to society and contribute to the UN humanitarian initiatives.
During our end year reviews, I was awarded a certificate of awesomeness. for being a fantastic advisor with a personality that glows as bright as the stars.

Education

I am a qualified Human Resource person with a certification in Human resources post graduate diploma -Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management attained at the Institute of Human Resource Management here in Nairobi.  I also have a certification in Higher Diploma in Business Administration Management attained at the Kenya Institute of Management, certificates in Public Relations and Counselling, a trained Secretary with a diploma in Secretarial studies and Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Communication & Sociology. graduate from the University of Nairobi. I have also attended Achieving Service Excellence: Building Trust & Connection with Digital Communication.
