Alex Okumu

Alex is a self-taught Graphic Designer who is currently studying Software Engineering at ALX. He completed five years of geospatial engineering in cartography and Geographical Information Science, allowing him to write a thesis on Tana River Flood Mitigation ( Flood Risk Mapping In Tanariver County -Kenya).
He interned as a graphic designer at Deveint Ltd., a web design firm, where he did user experience and user interface design work on websites and mobile apps (Botswana Stock Exchange). Alex's notable abilities include graphic design and data analysis.
He is a Division 2 basketball player for The Little Prince Basketball Club, where he has spent the last nine years as a member of the team's academy. His involvement with the club as a second-year rookie has exposed him to exceptional organizational skills that he can apply in other areas.
As a semi-developer, Alex does minor coding to come up with various solutions to problems that arise. He has created his own browser in Python and is now working on an event and close cooperation appraisal systems that can assist an organization in meeting its objectives. He also recently completed an artificial intelligence paper.
He envisions a future in which anyone can freely access and use the internet, as well as make contacts and build bridges across diverse populations.
 

I am a software enthusiast with map-making abilities and a graphic design background. My distinct combination of technical and creative abilities enables me to develop innovative solutions that are both visually appealing and highly functional. In my work, I've used my skills in software development, map creation, and graphic design to create custom mapping tools and applications that allow businesses and organizations to visualize and analyze data in novel and powerful ways.

I've worked with a variety of geospatial data sources, such as satellite imagery, GPS data, and GIS data. I am proficient in a variety of mapping software tools, including ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Maps, and I have experience building custom mapping applications using programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.I've been able to create dynamic, interactive maps that are not only informative but also visually engaging by combining my map-making skills with my knowledge of graphic design principles.

I have a strong understanding of typography, composition, and color theory, which allows me to create visually appealing designs for maps, charts, and other data visualizations. I am skilled in graphic design software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and have worked with clients to determine their design requirements and goals. My ability to combine technical and creative skills enables me to bring a fresh perspective to any project, and I am eager to continue using my skills to develop innovative solutions that have a positive impact.

My most relevant education is a University Diploma in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which has provided me with the necessary skills and knowledge to work in the field of geospatial analysis and mapping. This program provided me with expertise in map design, spatial analysis, geodatabases, and remote sensing, which has prepared me to work with geospatial data.

Throughout my program, I also gained hands-on experience with GIS software tools like ArcGIS and QGIS. Through coursework and practical exercises, I was able to gain hands-on experience in geospatial analysis and mapping. It has allowed me to create custom mapping solutions and visualize data in novel ways.
